About
Handmade from recycled fabrics. Designed to be one of a kind.
Hi ๐๐ผ Iโm Alex, the maker and creative behind Sew Xsan โ a small business creating handmade, sustainable accessories and clothing from recycled fabrics.
I design, pattern cut, and handmake every piece myself, with a focus on thoughtful design, small-batch production, and giving materials a second life. Sewing has been part of my world for as long as I can remember. It started with cross-stitch as a child, then truly took hold when I discovered the sewing machine at secondary school โ and I havenโt looked back since.
I took that love of sewing all the way through my education, studying throughout school and college before graduating from Southampton Solent with a BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion. Along the way, I became increasingly aware of the environmental impact of the fashion industry, and the potential in reworking and reusing what already exists.
After university, I kept a foot firmly in the sewing world, creating pieces for myself, friends, and family alongside related work. In 2024, I decided to take the plunge and turn Sew Xsan into an official business. With the help of my mum, I began trading at weekend markets โ and people really connected with the idea of unique, handmade pieces made from reclaimed materials.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Sew Xsan. All products are made using recycled, repurposed, or reworked fabrics sourced from remnant sections of fabric shops, charity shops, house clearances, and anywhere else hidden gems can be found. Letting the fabric lead the design process means that, aside from small accessories, every Sew Xsan piece is truly one of a kind.
Denim plays a huge role in the Sew Xsan story. Itโs my all-time favourite fabric to wear and to sew and has inspired my work for years. From well-loved jeans and jackets to offcuts and discarded denim, I rework these durable materials into functional, character-filled bags and accessories designed to last. Denimโs strength, history, and versatility have made it a signature of the brand.
The Sew Xsan collection has grown and evolved since it began. Iโve redesigned and refined almost all our original products, introduced new handmade designs, and continue to explore creative ways to use reclaimed materials. Clothing will be joining the range in 2026, expanding the brand while staying true to its sustainable roots.
Thank you for supporting slow fashion, handmade design, and a small business that believes great things can come from what already exists.
